Open Source devs: CodePlex or SourceForge?

I'm planning to soon to release a tool I've written to help automate some WSUS tasks I perform. I want to use an open source hosting site, and am minded to use either SourceForge or CodePlex. Can anyone offer me some insights into the advantages or disadvantages of each?

 

If you've used both and can compare, that would be even better.

Generally I find source forge better. Few reasons, but allows a lot more configuring of projects etc (You could argue this is bad )

 

Also, I find "generally" sourceforge hosts more "finished, ready to use" software, whereas codeplex etc is all plugins/addons, etc etc. Not like full projects.

 

Might have changed recently, but end of day a lot depends what you want from it. Is it your end, aka configuring/customising, or is it how many users will use it etc etc?

As its Microsoft aimed stuff I'd suggest Codeplex, soetimes simplisity is a good thig and codeplex does what is required without lots of extra cruft.

end of day a lot depends what you want from it. Is it your end, aka configuring/customising, or is it how many users will use it etc etc?

I certainly don't need a lot of complexity. Mostly I want something that is easy for me to manage and straightforward for end users to download and interact with. I don't really need a full version control system (I don't think I'd use it properly), but I would like to be able to upload changes as I make them between releases.

 

I would tend to direct people either from here or from my blog, so size/type of community on the hosting site isn't really on my radar.

Either would probably be fine then to be honest, although, some simple webspace from Edutech's not for profit hosting would probably be pretty ample too.

CodePlex would be where I would stick it if you were looking for something like that. It's the MSFT OpenSource Project Space and the app your developing is aimed at MSFT Product.

 

Any would of course do what you want.

 

If you want to make your own project/wiki/trail then let me know I'll happily throw over some web space for you to do it all from.

Another vote for Codeplex. It does what it says on the tin. Integrates with VS2010 without any extra addons (well the prof version). I use it for Home Access Plus&#43. There's a lot of useful libraries on there which come in handy. Plus codeplex now supports the oneclick framework, so you can upload oneclick projects directly and get MSFT to host them
