Windows 7 Sysprep Definitive Guide

Hi,

 

I have seen lots of different posts on here and the internet talking about Windows 7 sysprep. I have never found what i am after.

 

Has anybody got a definitive guide to create a sysprep file that will act just like a Windows XP one please? Basically ask for the computer name, once thats done join to the domain Automatically.

 

Also what optons would you select, Generalise, OBE etc.

 

Or if someone can share there sysprep stuff i would appreciate it

 

I have had a crack at this last year but failed.

 

If anyone has anything please do share

This looks interesting. If you dont want to create a user account i assume you leave the fields empty? If you want to specify your own computer name for each machine you image would you leave this blank?

You don't necessarily have to use SysPrep with Windows 7...

Since Windows Vista and later versions effectively just install a WIM and run a hardware detection phase during their normal install process, Sysprep no longer offers much of a speed improvement over an unattended build.

This is pretty much what we do. We take the Install.WIM, make a unnatended.xml that has a "FirstRun" script command inside. Wipe the machine with PXE boot, perform first logon, script installs of Office, Visio, AV software etc... (Whatever is defined in the script)

 

Drop it into the OU required in AD, from which it then picks up the relevent deployed software. (Adobe Reader, Flash, Shockwave etc...)

 

Ready for end user.

 

A wipe generally takes less than 1hr. When Windows 7 SP1 came out, i simply replaced the Win7 image with the Win7 SP1 image and it uses the same Unattended.xml file. (You will need one for x86 and one for x64 btw).
