Guest Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Hi all we currently run a program called my-pc which allows booking of all pcs in our open access areas, allows us to also view the desktops , remote log off users etc, works brilliant BUT they are the worst company i have ever dealt with, they have made it so we HAVE to buy maintenance each year or the program stops working. ahh you say but that means you get free upgrades, true but then they wont let us install the "free" upgrades and we have to pay for an onsite engineer at £900 a day. anyway to cut a long story short i was wondering if anyone esle knew of a good pc booking system as thats my goal to get rid of them this year Apologises for rambling on
Ric_ Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Try a search on the forum for MRBS - an open source system
webman Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I've developed my own which you are free to have a look at. It's only on its first release at the moment but hopefully another one will be out soon to fix a few issues and more functionality.
Guest Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 Thanks although i am looking for a PC booking system rather then a classroom booking system am i right in thinking yours Webman may be able to do that, i would be more then happy to help develop although all i can offer is testing and suggestions
Ric_ Posted March 7, 2007 Posted March 7, 2007 I haven't used webman's solution but I know that MRBS can be used for 'resources' as well as rooms. If you set up the system with the PCs as resources it should do the trick. Anything to save a bit of money and make your budget stretch further, eh? £900 can buy quite a bit of kit nowadys!
whitea Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I am using webman's application for booking the computers in the lab, simply naming computers as rooms. it's enough if you don't need a complex application and has a very nice design. it only lacks the utf8 support.
Guest Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 sounds good im gunna give it a test this coming week thanks
User3204 Posted March 8, 2007 Posted March 8, 2007 I had a look at the MyPC system a while back, but got frightened off when they quoted massive prices for the PrinterON system (print management s/w) we were alos looking at. The advantage of the MyPC system, was it only allowed the user that had booked the machine(s) to log on. Does anyone elses software do this ?
krissirk Posted March 9, 2007 Posted March 9, 2007 http://www.vendprint.com does pc booking and sells PrinterOn services. Check with them.
