Will Cat6 or Cat6a (shielded on both accounts) survive being put in the same trunking as electrical mains cabling? Reason I ask is that finally the top bosses have seen sense and will let me wire up the room, but the most feasible option is putting mini switches bolted to each desk, with a Cat6 going to each one, with Cat5e going to each mini switch (max of 6 connections on each mini switch so as not to overtax the Cat6). Is it doable?

If you can squeeze in some mini trunking or copex tubing to seperate them that would be better.

Might be able to do some copex, but minitrunking is out as the route goes underground after a point for each run, and it will be tight.

Depends on the distance it will be running parallel with the power. Ideally you want 150mm separation or individual conduits but as you said you cannot do that. It will work, just a gamble as to side effects.

If your squishing Cat 6 cabling in with power, then your are unlikely to get the correct radii on the corners, effectively making it just expensive cat 5. So probably best not to bother with the extra expense of Cat 6.

If you're going to the trouble of cabling the whole room wouldn't it make more sense to run your cabling back towards some central managed location rather than having lots of switches bolted to desks?

the room was wired 2 years ago and they didnt listen, now they are moaning that it should have been done in the first place (like I have been saying for 2 years!!)
