Using MRBS for room bookings

Hi all

 

Im looking for info on how to setup MRBS at our school.

 

I have the documentation for the actual software install but wanted to get a dummies guide to how to setup a webserver (ours are linux and managed by LEA so dont want to get involved with that) and using PHP and MySQL etc etc as dont have much experience of this.

 

Is there a web site package that will have something like phpmyadmin etc built in to make it easier to manage?

 

Can anyone help?

Are you wanting to host it on windows?

 

possibly wamp? (windows apache, mysql, php)

I would put in on linux (ubuntu) on a lamp server.

Glennda - Ideally i wouldnt mind hosting it on Windows but was looking at the external webserver idea for the ease of management of php and mysql with their built in tools.

 

Richard - Thanks for input but i know nothing about linux and to be frank dont want to. We currently have MRBS on the linux server that we have on site but cant manage as its LEA. The reason for looking now is that we can look after it ourselves as we recently had a load of data go missing but they dont make backups and cant restore anything.

The way I do it is just to install XAMPP on a server somewhere, set up MRBS on it and then using DNS setting to point any requests for "bookings.XXXXschool.com" to that server. Obviously that will only work internally but we've never had any calls to set it up externally.
