Search network for files

Im looking to do a network audit and need to search network for certain filetypes.

 

Need a quick way to do it preferably with gui (file location - option to delete etc)

 

currently i'm using a batch file which is a bit hacky and slow.....

Ok not "quick" but if you prefer the GUI/location/option to delete etc, couldn't you just use the default explorer? Nice easy way to search for "album size" mp3s etc etc

 

Not sure anything will be that quick over entire server unless it's all indexed anyway

Treesize Pro is your friend. We used to use it all the time. We only stopped using it because we were told that when deleting files on the network that weren't supposed to be there, that we should notify the staff member first. This then lead to files not being deleted except for when we began running out of space. Then instead of that, we expandedour storage space. Not the way I'd have done it but then again, I'm not the boss.

Its mainly a problem with games and exes at the mo, kids have a habit of renaming their "game" exe to something like IT Homework.exe - except its minecraft.....

with a gui listing I can see at a glance by the program icon exactly what it is.

I can search on the the servers in their home drives and delete, but they've been sneaky and copied suspect files locally, (we don't use roaming profiles or redirection).

They are quite nailed down with GPO but seem to be managing somehow - probably have to nail it down more!

 

Currently experimenting with a vbscript via a scheduled task per machine that works great for listing fast too, but its still going to be a chore deleting.

Script seems to be working, also seems like my battle plans have worked too, machines are pretty clean !
