Which firewall for beginners

Hi everyone,

My younger brother recently got a pc...it's running XP Home and he knows nothing about internet security...all i need to know is what would be the best and easiest firewall to use for a beginner such as my little brother???

If you want a software based one - I quite like Comodo

The best firewall would be a hardware one that they probably already have in the form of their router... Any NAT router is going to be firewalling pretty well, just make sure that uPNP is not enabled. Otherwise, just ensure that the built in firewall is enabled (I'm guessing / hoping that they have a fully patched (or at least post SP2 system here).

As long as you have a standard router for your broadband then Windows firewall should be just fine.

whats zone alarm like - not sure if they do a free version anymore ??

Also heard a lot of good things about comodo but as above can't really beat a hardware firewall, as long as he has good anti virus / anti malware installed thats kept up to date and is behind a router with the firewall settings enabled it should be ok
