[wds] Network Booting

Hi, We are in the process of configuring and using WDS (Trying to move away from the old Norton Ghost we have).

 

I have followed Microsoft's Technet guide for setting WDS up on one of our Server 2003 R2 (Step-by-Step Guide for Windows Deployment Services in Windows Server 2003)

 

All seems to be configured correctly, however when trying to network boot from a client it cannot receive a IP address? DHCP is working correctly as clients receive a IP address from DHCP when booting into Windows. I'm sure I have missed something simple, maybe some configuration on the DHCP server? WDS is running on a different server to the DHCP server but they are within the same subnet.

 

Any help would be appriciated.

if dhcp is running on a different pc to the wds server did you tick the option 60/67 options on install/setup if so untick it. where is it not getting a lease before or after you push f12 to netboot and select your image if its after there id guess your boot image dosent have drivers for that pcs nic

You also have to set up options 066 and 067 on your DHCP Server

Option 066 should point to your WDS server's IP address

Option 067 should point to your bootfile. Ours is boot\x86\wdsnbp.com

Very strange! A restart of the WDS service sorted it! Typical, I started searching for the complex issues before the simple ones. Sorry guys!
