Windows Update Error - 'Call Error Code = 0x8024000B'

Hi all,

 

For several weeks, I've been trying to update my Windows PCs here via the Windows Update website. I select all the updates to install and all seem to download OK. However, when it comes to updating, every single one of the updates fails.

 

I've tried re-installing Windows Update Agent on several occasions, but to no avail. I'm logged in with Administrator rights, using the same accoutn that the machines were originally updated with during their initial build.

 

Looking through the Windows update log, the following error is being reported:

Any help with this issue would be much appreciated - I have spent a few hours with Google searching the error and trying all the usual solutions, but to no avail.

Silly question I know - have you tried doing them one at a time? I have had computers where one fails and the others fall over like ninepins

When experiencing problems with Windows Update I tend to do two things:

 

1/ Remove and re-install the Windows Update software.

 

2/ Update manually.

How do I reset Windows Update components?

 

I know it states for windows vista but the stopping of services, renaming of the software distribution folder and other folders as well as re registring the components and then restarting the said services again is normally what I do.

 

Also with regards to the proxy command to blank out the proxy and also resetting winsock and then re applying GPO to reset the proxy settings if any are required ( unless you are doing this on a direct connection )

I had this problem once, it also stopped Windows Essentials from updating. I did some googling to find a KZM/Killer (cant remember the exact name of it) but its an exe that removed some thing on my PC that was malware.

Essentials died as a result of it and MalwareBytes didnt pick it up, so I googled and found the exe. If you want this I can get the name of it when I get home tonight and post it. I am guessing your internet explorer works fine though? (my issue included IE not working).

Assuming this is windows xp

 

If you wanted to try and repair IE the way I normally do it is to completely remove newer versions of ie until you get back to version 6

 

Then use iefix --> IEFix Utility - Description

 

Which requires the xp disc ( same service pack revision level as the OS ) so if the OS is SP2 then the disc needs to be SP 2 and if the OS is SP 3 then the disc needs to be SP 3

 

You can slipstream the relevant SP to a new disc which you obviously burn and do it that way

The method should be the same regardless of which service pack.

 

Once internet explorer has been repaired then you will need to reboot and then upgrade to the later version whether this is 7, 8 or 9.

 

I would stick with version 7 as 8 has some issues and 9 has only just come out.

Personaly I would try the dcom work around :

 

 

1. On Win2000 go to START then RUN type DCOMCNFG

 

2. Click on the Default Security Tab

 

3. Under Default Access Permissions click on Edit

 

4. If the list is blank, then verify that Administrator is in the list. Add it if necessary by clicking ADD then click on ADMINISTRATOR and then click OK.

 

Ensure Administrator has full access rights ( relevant tick boxes are checked )

This actually solved my problem, its a simple little scanner. It was my fault really I was looking for a cough cough crack and running it didnt do anything. Instead I noticed a while later it had stopped updates and Essentials, MalwareBytes and Mcafee did not pick up anything but the TDSS killer did. It had also stopped IE from working properly so I resorted to firefox.

 

I just had a laptop though which struggled with IE and updates after a Windows 7 update.. resorted to system restore.
