nawbus Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 Anyone else here use Fotopic.net for online photo galleries, as it seems to have gone belly up and shows no signs of reappearing? As it appears to be unlikely to come back, does anyone have any suggestions for a self hosted gallery package that offers similar functionality? ta
MatthewL Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 It wouldn't be the first time this has happened to Fotopic. It happened at the beginning of 2009 and end of last year if I remember rightly. There was rumour they were not doing too well financially if I remember.
MatthewL Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Just been sent this: Fotopic.net - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia 1
nawbus Posted March 15, 2011 Author Posted March 15, 2011 Just been sent this: Fotopic.net - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Yeah I'd seen that as well. The trouble is that Fotopic / Snappy Designs are not saying anything at all. Very ppor.
thewisenheimer Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I'm really behind - I just noticed that fotopic is down & I have 2 galleries on there! You could use shutterfly.com - it's more of a personal type album, but it is a good place to store all your photos. I like to sell mine, so I will do some research to see if there's one that is more like fotopic... without the bad communications. If anyone else has any ideas - please - I'm all ears.
Arthur Posted April 13, 2011 Posted April 13, 2011 I like to sell mine, so I will do some research to see if there's one that is more like fotopic... without the bad communications. You should look at ZenFolio, SmugMug or PhotoShelter. 1
nawbus Posted April 13, 2011 Author Posted April 13, 2011 You should look at ZenFolio, SmugMug or PhotoShelter. Yeah, I've gone with SmugMug (odd name though!), which seems to be very good. Fotopic's parent company, Snappy Designs, has gone into administration. However, according to Fotopic's previous owner (as read on other forums) there are one or two potential buyers for the business. Not too sure how good a business idea it would be to take on Fotopic given their now bad reputation! 1
thewisenheimer Posted April 16, 2011 Posted April 16, 2011 That really IS an odd name. It looks pretty good though. I agree, I don't think it'd be a good buy - but, who knows maybe they have some tricks up their sleeve to turn that reputation around! I'm just sad because I had a LOT of photos on there & now need to search for the originals so I can put them somewhere else. Lots of really nice ones of grizzly bears - close ups. Sigh. I really appreciate the links to the other sites! That helps a lot. Sincerely, Martie aka thewisenheimer
