Steven Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Morning everyone, I have been asked to deploy Office 2010 Professional, Does anybody know how I go about doing this and be able to point me in the right direction?, We are running Server 2003 & 2008 and all clients are Windows XP. They might only want certain components out of the suite and also want both versions running 2003 & 2010? I appreciate your help Thank you
Edu-IT Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 You want the Office 2010 customization tool to make an MST then put this MST with the MS setup files and deploy as you normally would. I'm not totally sure that you can run both versions side by side. Why would you want to? Office 2010 will also need a KMS for easy activation. jonnykewell1 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Its not that simple, but its the recommeneded microsoft way as they didnt provide an MSI. And it works! We deployed it to over 700 machines last week.
Edu-IT Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Its not that simple, but its the recommeneded microsoft way as they didnt provide an MSI. And it works! We deployed it to over 700 machines last week. That is the way I pretty much did it too and it's working well on my machine. Am going to find a few more 'guinea pigs' to test it on.
Steven Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Thanks for your help, I have managed to get it all working properly, however the batch file will not run on startup. It runs on logon and installs office silently and will also work when I click on it manually is there any reason why this would not run on start up?
SkreeM1980 Posted March 9, 2011 Posted March 9, 2011 Steven, You need to configure the batch file as a machine startup script using group policy rather than a user logon script. You can make it leave the 2003 version on at the same time, for all applications except outlook. I can't see any reason you would want to though, we are just testing with a small group at the moment and all are so happy with 2010 that they don't want to use the PC's that have 2003 installed. Skr
Steven Posted March 9, 2011 Author Posted March 9, 2011 Thanks for your help, I have managed to work out why it was not installing on start up and it was because of share permissions etc. Seems to be working fine now. Thanks for your help.
chazzy2501 Posted March 11, 2011 Posted March 11, 2011 If you're under SA you could use APP-V for easy deployment and you can run both 2003 and 2010 at the same time. (I've not used APP-V, just saw a demo once)
talksr Posted March 31, 2011 Posted March 31, 2011 I found the Aaron Parker Customizing Office 2010 before deployment document very helpful, so thanks for that post. I have followed the guide through fully and I am now ready to deploy. On the article, it says: Once you have finished creating the customisation file, save it and now you’re ready to start the Office 2010 deployment process. His link takes me here: Deploy Office 2010 There must be 10 or so different choices for deployment based on different scenarios. Which one do I pick? I just want to deploy office 2010 from my Server 2008 R2. All of the setup files are in the P\ public drive, accessible read/write to 'everyone'. I was thinking, that it might be the: Run Setup from a network installation point option.
