Ali26m Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Hi guys, This is my first post so please redirect me if I'm posting somewhere I shouldn't be. I've recently noticed an issue on our main DC/DNS server, basically a dns record seems to be stuck somewhere and I have so far been unable to clear it. So far I've tried ipconfig /flushdns dcdiag netdiag net stop dnscache checked the host file checked TCP/IP settings scavenging stale records ect The record cannot be seen within the dns snap in but as soon as I try and ping it or use nslookup the server locates the name and ip and attempts to get a response. The request fails as the client no longer exists but the record still seems to be stuck somewhere. The reason I'm trying to get rid is it keeps giving errors in the event viewer and lists this client as the issue. P.S after a ipconfig /flushdns is done and a ipconfig /displaydns is done the record disapears, as soon as a ping is performed the record reappears in ipconfig /displaydns Any ideas / help would be greatly appreciated.
EduTech Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 In your DNS Console, Right click on the "DNS" Node and select "Connect to Other Server" see if any other DNS Servers are lying around? also if you type in nslookup do you see the server you are viewing the DNS Console on or/ another one..? James.
SYNACK Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 If you rightclick the DNS server in the DNS manager there should be an option somewhere to clear the NS cache, this acts on the server directly and may get rid of that record. The ipconfig stuff just works on the localhost and not the server service itself.
ChrisH Posted March 8, 2011 Posted March 8, 2011 Ipconfig /flushdns is for the dns client try dnscmd /clearcache although I would have thought the other actions you have performed should have done this for you.
SkreeM1980 Posted March 10, 2011 Posted March 10, 2011 Is it possibly a reverse lookup WINS entry? If you run WINS use the console, goto display all records and then filter by the name you are struggling with. Then if it is present click it and hit delete. if hyou get option to Tombstone click yes! Skr
