I know this isn't quite the same but bear with me.

 

I was walking home on a dark country road [i wasn't driving at the time and the last bus had gone so it was a four mile walk home for me]

 

There was a path for the whole length of my journey so I felt quite happy to undertake the trip and I had made the same journey several time before.

 

However on this particular evening headlights broke the darkness from behind and I heard the car's engine rev up with the driver asking for more speed from the car. As it approached I felt that there was something wrong. I looked behind me and I saw that the car had mounted the pavement and was coming toward me at speed. I had no choice other than to jump backward so that I could avoid being hit by the car.

 

I landed [feet first luckily] in an ditch where the water was ankle deep and inky-black [even in the day!] I heard the unconcerned driver and passenger laughing about what they had just seen/done as they drove off at speed.

 

Needless to say I got very messy extracting myself from the ditch.

 

That was more than 20 years ago and I still remember it like it was yesterday. I never felt that I was in any particular danger I just felt that it was a pointless act.

 

I feel the same way about deliberately driving through puddles to splash pedestrians.

 

Don't do it people!

Thats actually illegal to do! My cousin got arrested for doing that as its a danger to pedestrians

I was walking under the M5 J5 junction after a heavy spell of rain and there was a huge puddle on the entrance to the roundabout. With the heavy traffic there was no way I was going to get past without a soaking. Then a big artic stopped and waved for me to come through whilst he held up the traffic. I waved my thanks to the driver who I noticed was on the wrong side. It had Romanian plates, how long would I have waited for a British driver to stop?

I think what it comes down to is that most of us would be tempted to do it but wouldnt actually do so! I like to catch the edges of big puddles and make a lovely fountain but I am careful to do it when there isnt anyone around who would get wet
