Come into school this am to be told " the lights dipped yesterday i think we've had a power surge" Now i have half a dozen pc' s which wont connect their profiles and log onto the domain. Can someone give me some pointers thanks:confused:
glennda Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Do you have a ups? Is it manageable? as this should tell you in its logs if there was a surge or not. Can you login locally and check they can see the domain/ping servers etc? Are they all in the same location? Could be a switch is playing up after the surge. 1
glen_j Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 yeah i'd be looking at the switches they are connected to, its possible that the surge tripped a circuit breaker powering the switches 1

Ive 4 PC'S IN ONE class connected via a switch 1 connects ok 3 dont .Then ive 2 other classes with similar issues . Ive replaced switches . Im now trying to find out local login etc as no one seems to know anything !

klingklang Posted February 17, 2011 Author Posted February 17, 2011 Thanks to all who replied . Issue now resolved, I pulled the mains out from the affected pc's removed patch cable and unplugged switches for an hour reconnected and everything now ok ... Time for a cup of tea

Time for a cup of tea Would have been the first thing i would have done ( disconnect untill MB power light goes out), and also turning the switches on and off again
jedmondson Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 My old work had a server that when a brownout occered overnight and the ups died would require me turning it on and off again for about 20 mins untill i gave up, had a cup of coffee and it would then turn back on.
