What if I wanted to Virtualize an existing room with Hyper-V

We are starting to explore virtualization and I may in the future be looking to virtualise one IT room as a test case.

 

I would be looking to virtualize 35 machines using Hyper-V and have a few questions.

 

* What hardware would I be looking at server and client?

 

* How would the clients in the rooms log onto the virtual machines, is there a way to auto connect them to a virtual machine from a pool using RDP.

 

Am I looking at client virtualization in the completely wrong way

 

* Has anyone virtualised a whole room.

Yes and Yes!

You have the right idea ish - and you could do a room for the same cost as buying standard PCs.

You could even go down the Citrix route and still save money giving a much better performance,.

I think they want to setup thin clients and terminal servers. But seem to be getting sligtly confused.

Sounds like VDI to me but unless you need the full-fat desktop experience you could get away with Terminal Services but with the usual caveats around that solution.

 

Also bear in mind graphics performance for multimedia will be dire unless you're using something like Citrix HDX, PCoIP or RemoteFX (see the other threads in this section as it seems to be a hot topic at the moment!)
