PhotoStory wmv files playing badly

I seem to have a problem with photostory

 

(well .wmv files really)

 

I've got a bunch of Acer751s (11in XP Home) and they tried to create and playback some photstories with them and basically the .wmv output doesn't play back properly (only shows 1st 10 frames and then just sound for rest of clip!)

 

Didn't matter if I set them to output profile 1 (320x240) - same effect???

 

Copied the videos to a normal desktop- they played fine.

 

I installed media player classic on one ofthe netbooks and that played the .wmvs perfectly.

 

Tried upgrading one machine to Media Player 11 - just as bad.

 

Anyone had similiar probs (and quick fix???)

 

Or am I going to have to deploy mpc of vlc to all these machines?

Just tried the same thing on a ASUS1001 and it played back fine so its not some generic netbook problem.
