Installing Hyper-V on a server with the DHCP server role

We have a Server 2008 R2 domain controller, running the DHCP and DNS roles as well. It is the primary DC emulator and is infrastructure master. It is also a global catalog server.

 

I was thinking of installing Hyper-V on it. Has anyone managed to install hyper-v onto such a configuration? Are there any issues I should be aware of?

I don't see an issue other than getting the licensing right.

 

Our main AD server runs DC with GC, DHCP, DNS, WSUS, DFS, PS, CS, Radius (it use to host even more without issue). And it acts as a host for 3 other hyper-v machines. It is licensed as Enterprise to allow total 4 full server instances.

 

Some people may suggest not putting anything on a hyper-V host, but this is to prevent the host form taking resources away from the VM's. As long as any of the hosts resources arn't overloaded, I see no reason why you should have any issues whatsoever.

Yeah our server is Enterprise. I was going to put some light use VMs on that server to give some resources free for AD etc.

Besides what has already been said about a Hyper-V host should only be for Hyper-V and nothing else I don't see any issues.

 

As part of this the whole idea of running VMs is that the host should be uberly stable state with nothing else running on it besides Hyper-V but then again if you don't have anything better to run your VMs on then why not!
