Server Admin not allowing connection?

My 10.6.5 OS X server isn't allowing me to connect from a 10.6.5 client using Server Admin.

 

On the client the xserve is visible, and when I try to connect (using the servers local administrative account, or an AD account) it fails with the message 'The login information is incomplete for this server or is not valid'

 

I know the login is correct, and I can connect Server Monitor and Workgroup Manager from the same client, so something must be wrong here.

Are you trying to mount a share?

I have the same issue. I figured it was probably some DNS thing as our XServe has two internal NICs...

 

Never worked it out and now I just run SA from the server itself via Screen Sharing/ARD.

Not trying to mount a share, just running Server admin on a client pc to administer the server. Server admin tools installed on the client work apart from the actual Server Admin which fails to connect.

 

Our xserve has 2 nics as well, one is on the network and the other just has a IP for LOM

Have you tried connecting with both the name and the IP address of the server?

Yes, I've tried short name, FQDN and ip address. All come back with the same error.

Can you perform both a lookup (forward and reverse) and/or ping the server from the client machine in question?

Forward and backward dns resolution seem to be fine, using nslookup and dig. I've reinstalled the server tools as well but still the same. very odd.

Does your server tools match the OS version of the server?
