Becoming a new Academy

Are there any technicians in schools that have transformed into an academy status school where their pay has been realigned with the private sector as opposed to the constraints of public section council control?

 

If so did you see any financial benefits?

I will be interested in the replies to this also as our school is looking into the possibility of taking the academy status shortly. Although we have been told that our current pay and contractual conditions will remain the same as what they are with the LEA but obviously being taken over by the school.

We became an academy in october, pay and conditions stayed the same.

 

Is there any reason they're going to increase your pay purely because of some paperwork?

 

It's still the education sector and they probably still won't thave the money that a business would especially with the cuts this year and the next

Most, if not all, schools converting to academy status will stick to existing pay and conditions for all staff. This is because there is so much else to do that negotiating changes to staff terms would delay the process infeasibly... it's easier to convert without putting staff noses out of joint!

 

This is what happened at the school where I am governor and ther are no plans to diverge from this in the forseeable future (I'm on the Finance Committee, so I do know!)

 

If you think private school techs get paid more, think again. We don't... everything revolves around fee income and pay rises occur if our trustees/governors are minded to do them. We are not on pay scales and don't get pay scale increments just for being there 12 months.
