Due to the important nature of this for Primary Schools and those using Primary Curriculum, posting this notice from SupportNet

 

URGENT Database diagnostics removing primary curriculum – patch available

 

 

CUSTOMERS AFFECTED Any primary school that has used primary curriculum to create schemes (e.g. Maths or Literacy teaching groups) that are derived from registration groups.

 

PROBLEM Running Database Diagnostics will remove primary curriculum schemes, so they will no longer be visible via Focus | School | Academic Structure | Edit Curriculum Structure or Curriculum Assignment by Scheme. Teaching groups will still be visible within marksheet filters and you will be able to view the pupil memberships of teaching groups via Focus | School | Academic Structure | Curriculum Assignment by Pupil.

 

SOLUTION Patch 15372 MUST be applied BEFORE running Database Diagnostics, to prevent removal of primary curriculum schemes. This patch prevents future removal of primary curriculum. It does not replace the removed curriculum scheme. All schools already using primary curriculum should apply patch 15372.

 

It can be applied to other databases, e.g. Specials, PRUs, Middle-deemed secondaries, in case you are not sure of use of primary curriculum.

 

Patch 15463 will restore removed primary curriculum.

 

AVAILABILITY Patches 15372 and 15463 should be requested from the Service Desk to be authorised from SOLUS.

Update today, the patch has been released to LAs and Schools. I got my email through earlier today. New notice below, with some changes:

Patch 15463 should be requested from the Service Desk.

Looks like it's been a big issue as the following appeared today:

Database Diagnostics

From the SIMS 2011 Spring release ALL diagnostic checks that amend customer data have been disabled. We have taken this step to prevent any possible instances of data being incorrectly amended.

 

All Database Diagnostic checks will now therefore just report on any data issues they have found and then inform users of the correct action they need to take.

 

This change is available now as a Patch. If you would like to ensure that this change to the functioning of Database Diagnostics happens now, please apply Patch: 15500

just seems an odd build up of events if no-one has encountered the issue, which by default would mean they lost data. Good news if all are safe then.

 

I think it should be a mandatory patch applied now, bearing in mind there are many users out there who will run this routine as a potential fix to problems, and certainly on SupportNet there are members who will have the permission to run this tool, but wont necessarily be the ones that know about Patches, or do the upgrading. So many threads talk about DB diag and validate memberships to help sort things out, it could be an issue even if it isn't now, hence my reason for posting up here.
