teejay Posted February 3, 2011 Posted February 3, 2011 We are using Forefront TMG and our internet connection is being maxed out (yes we do need a faster connection. but not an option at the moment). What I need is a way to view live or nearly live data on what sites/users are currently consuming all our bandwidth, anyone know of any way of doing this even if it means buying extra reporting software?
altecsole Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 If you run the daily report it'll show you what sites are pulling the most bandwidth. Depending whether you have and filtering in place this is likely to be media streaming sites like YouTube, we7.com, or grooveshark.com 1
teejay Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Yes, we do that already, we need some way to do a similar thing but on pretty much live data, so we can ascertain what sites/users are using up all the bandwidth at this point in time so we can take some immediate action. It's becomming a real problem, yes the real answer is to get a faster internet connection, but that's not going to happen for quite a while, if at all, so we need some way to proactively monitor it in real time.
Domino Posted February 4, 2011 Posted February 4, 2011 Honestly I've never found a way to reliably get data out of TMG or ISA We use a combination of MRTG and NTOP running on unix boxes to gather close to realtime traffic stats - Can be run as VMs and fairly easy to setup. MRTG - Tobi Oetiker's MRTG - The Multi Router Traffic Grapher Netflow and sFlow based Open Source Network Traffic Monitoring 1
teejay Posted February 4, 2011 Author Posted February 4, 2011 Yes, beginning to realise TMG is a bit of a chocolate teapot product for this sort of thing ;-)
bio Posted February 7, 2011 Posted February 7, 2011 You need a third party filter like GFI webmonitor to do this. Expensive though bio..
psydii Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Old thread I know, but this might be helpful to those asking the same question: FASTVUE | Bandwidth Charts Explanation.. For Realtime reports on bandwith (bits/sec) querying your switch port should give you an overview. Something integrated with TMG (like Fastvue ) can only (?) report MB/user.
