computerissues Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 I am trying to set up my first VLan, the manual that comes with 3com switch is not of much help. Calling 3com (HP) first level support not any help. I have a modem>router>switch Do the VLans need separate IPs? I have DHCP turned off on the Router LAN side >to switch. Do I need to turn DHCP on and assign new IP range to talk with VLANs. Any help with setting this up in 3com 2824-sfp much appreciated.
riffleman Posted January 31, 2011 Report Posted January 31, 2011 A vlan only needs an IP address if you want the switch to route between vlans. Dhcp is only needed if you want to assign ip addresses within the Vlan. If you want dhcp to cross vlans, you need to setup a dhcp relay. I've setup a very extensive 3com based network with multiple vlans. Pm me if you want me to help you with the setup so we can tailor it specifically for your needs.
