Open Source Mail Server - Windows Server 2003

I am using Windows 2003 server on my network. We have two Active Directories and our own setup of DHCP and DNS.

I want to setup an open-source free mail server to work with my Active Directory.

I want the mail server passwords to be synchronized with the AD passwords

 

Any suggestions please?

Not open source but it should do what you want hMailServer - Free email server for Microsoft Windows

 

This is recommended a lot here and is opensource, according to their forum it should work with AD http://www.zimbra.com/products/zimbra-collaboration-suite.html

Zimbra Open SOurce will do what you want, but it runs on Linux not Windows. I don't know of any true Open Source mail server that run on Windows.

To be honest, if you are an eductaion establishment, then look at a cloud based solution like Google Apps for education or Microsoft Live@Edu, especially if you have limited Linux experience.

Here is what we use and pretty simple and secure Zimbra offers Open Source email server software and shared calendar for Linux and the Mac.

 

another one open source: AfterLogic WebMail Lite .NET download - Open source AJAX webmail script. Easy install, no database required.

There are so many Phew!

hmail runs on windows , does anti spam and everything else..

i tried hMailServer, its cool but i dont think it gives a web interface to users in order to check their emails !!!

You can add whatever web front end you want to it like Roundcube but there is not one built in by default.

I use SquirrelMail myself at home as a web-based email client - I run it on a Linux VM, but it should work on a Windows server too. My Linux VM integrates just fine with Active Directory, with users able to log on and check their email with their AD username and password. As others have pointed out, this is just a web front-end, you'll still need an actual mail server for SquirrelMail to connect to.

We run hmailserver with roundcube here for the students. Exchange for the staff. Keeps it simple for the kids and features for the staff
