Password Protect a mapped drive? Easy Solution

Hi guys,

 

I am sure their is a simple solution to this.

 

In one of my Primary schools (running Server 2008 and Windows 7) the staff all login using a shared login. They have access to various shared drives. The drives are:

 

Teacher Drive (teacher work saved)

Global Drive (General resources)

Management Drive (Confidential or Assessment things saved)

 

I have been asked if it can be setup so that when a teacher clicks on the Management Drive the first time they login they are prompted for a password before they can access it?

 

Just an extra step in security. I have suggested individual staff accounts where the Management drive can only be assigned to those that need it using Group Policy but been told individual accounts for teachers "might be too complicated"

If you download this attachment and also autoit,

 

Change the file extension from .txt to .au3 and then change the path and also the drive letter which is mapped from within autoit.

 

then compile it. then run the app and it should prompt for username then password and then map the drive with those credentials.

Once compiled will I have to install Auto-it on every PC? I would ideally prefer a way to do this without using any third party software if possible?

No it will just create a runnable exe. Then just create a startup script like this

 

 

echo off 
if exist C:\loginapp.txt goto end


xcopy \\server\share\login.exe "C:\documents and settings\all users\desktop" /e /s /v /y

echo done>c:\login.txt

end

 

replace "C:\documents and settings\all users\desktop" with where ever you would like the file copied to.
