I have bandwidth going spare on my virtual box and I have setup CGI IRC before. If you want I could sort that out.

Ok I have the basics running at http://www.cphsolutions.co.uk/cgi-bin/irc.cgi .

 

Theres a few issues at the moment though. It's on a basic install so I will add to the config later and quaknet doesnt like clones so it seems more than 5 from the same host eg the cgi script will get kicked. There is a way to get it to display hex encoded ips before the @myserver so I will try that tonight as it involves a perl script out of the web directory and an entry in the inetd config.

You need to contact Quakenet and ask for a trusted connection from the IP your web server runs on. Changing the username will not help.

Yeah I noticed. Fortuantly my desktop box at home has a real IRC client so I added the channel to my perform list.

Running into trouble installing the ident stuff. I used the stuff from the CGI:IRC site and lost SSH and FTP access to my server grrr. Once I binned that and got another perl version of the ident stuff I set to getting the identd component which wouldnt install due to a dependancy failure and the Fedora server doesnt have Yum :\ . I tried satisfying the dependancy but the other packages that had the file were packages like openssl which I reluctantly installed but that failed on dependancies as well. Bloody RPM rubbish. Thats why I use Debian usually!!!

Completely agree with the RPM sentiment. Thats why I use Gentoo.

 

For the confused observer, its technically known as dependancy hell, windows admins will of run into the windows variant known as DLL hell.

You can register if you want. It really doesn't matter if your just a casual user. You only need to register if you want to setup perminent channels and request L.

usernames need to be simple short alphanumeric phrases. No wierd symbols.

The channel is set to mederate so if you wait about 10 seconds you will be set to +v and you will be able to talk.

Your nickname is already in use in quakenet with the 1000s of people on at any one time Im afraid Russ is bound to be taken. The Nick are server wide not channel only im afraid.

i get same issues as russ, doesnt matter what i choose it jus kicks for bad uname, ill jump on with mirc tonight and see if anyone else is lurking

Hmm strange I have no trouble connecting from work..... just for the sake of it try with the one it assigns you as default.

We wont be able to get a trust of quakenet so 5 users on the CGI:IRC will be the max Maybe this will do for a bit but something better maybe needed.

No. We do not give trusts to web-based IRC clients such as CGI:IRC that do not pass-through the real conection information of the person using the CGI:IRC client.

i "might" be able to run unrealircd on a box somewhere, need to go pull a few favours first tho, if not i usta be an ircop on a few nets so might be able to get something sorted.
