Whitelisting/restricted access for certain users

A common problem, here and I'm sure everywhere else, is the constant "can you take x of the internet", quickly followed by "can you put x back on".....

 

We don't have ISA/websense/smoothwall etc in school, staff go through a squid box which puts in the proxy user/password for our LA ISA and forwards it on. With the forthcoming (hopefully) reduced costs for MS licensing I'm wondering if I got an ISA box installed could I use it to restrict access to certain sites for these troublesome pupils(they are put into a separate OU).

 

The only other thing we use is ABTutor, which I don't think can do this.

you can temporarily stop them running IE with abtutor

 

there's multiple possibilities with ISA server.

 

You can have a security group in AD attached to a rule that restricts access. then you only need to add or remove pupils from that group.

 

We have a group connected to a flash-banned rule for kids who keep trying to play games and another group for no-access at all. In order to make managing this easier, I made a webpage that purely allows adding or removing kids from flash-banned ad group.

 

Also in webpages we have that allow teachers themselves! to turn the internet on or off in their room there is a page that enables the teachers to manage access on an individual computer basis.

I've used the temporary block in ABTutor, but am looking for something longer term, your repsonse sounds like just what I'm looking for - good news!
