Guestimating Fiber Costs

I would normally say £100 per port for CAT5, but I have no idea a guestimate amount for fibre.

 

Do you have any guide costs for terminated fibre so I don't have to get a company in just for a guide price?

Your fibre cost is also going to vary depending on how many cores, length etc...

You need 2 cores for data cable. Ideally put in at least 4 cores, gives you a bit of redundancy if a core stops working and also gives you the option of agregating links later on for better speed/redundancy. For the cable you're looking around 60p per metre for 2 core and about 90p per metre for 4 core, so it doesn't add that much to the price, the expensive bit is installation, termination and testing.

I would not bother with anything less than 16 core.

I'll email a cable guy I know for you. Is it going through a ceiling void or externally between buildings and do you have existing fibre patch panels? Will it run at 1Gb or 10Gb and if at 1Gb do you want the option of upgrading to 10Gb at a later date?

Were adding a new building to the school network. Everything else is 1Gb so I cant see 10Gb being on the cards for a very long time (primary school).

It will be run through existing in building trunking then in a short trench to the new building once built (trench being dug with foundations, so no cost).
