Rydra Posted March 23, 2011 Posted March 23, 2011 surely the fact that they'll do better in what we call poorer quality makes it better quality from the plants view? so actually it's good quality for the vines? My (highly limited) understanding is that poor quality soil will result in less fruit produced per plant, since the plant has to work twice as hard to produce the fruit, it can't maintain as much of it. Therefore less fruit produced = more expensive to produce same quantity of wine, explaining why the "best" wines etc cost so much!

featured_spectre Posted March 28, 2011 Author Posted March 28, 2011 For tomorrow...a nice one Fact #81: Archimedes could have lifted the Earth more by jumping up and down than using a lever. Archimedes once said: "Give me a place to stand and I will move the Earth." While he discovered the power of levers, the QI elves have calculated that if he weighted 100kg, and he placed his fulcrum a kilometre away from the bottom of the Earth, in order to balance the planet he would need a lever 6.5 billion light years long. Assuming he could find a lever that long, if he moved his lever by one metre, the Earth would move less than the distance of the diameter of a proton.
plexer Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Correction: Barry White sings in my heart Isn't it Barry White sung in bass baritone?
witch Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I thought basso profundo was the lowest, 'richest' bass? Barry White would fit into this category.
Domino Posted March 29, 2011 Posted March 29, 2011 I thought basso profundo was the lowest, 'richest' bass? Barry White would fit into this category. Basso Profundo is indeed the lowest, and is split into 'dramatic' and 'lyrical' However I'm not sure Barry White would fit into it, as it tends to only be used for operatic tonal 'wall' like pieces...
