Chuckster Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 When you create a base image with all your apps and what have you on a workstation, can you then use that sysprepped image on different makes of hardware from other PC manufacturers? Or is it simply like XP where you can only apply the image on the same type of hardware?
cpjitservices Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Use Clonezilla, it seems to work on every PC I have imaged Different hardware types using that, but also build your images in VMWare, I did this and the base image I made (XP Pro) seems to work on all the different PC's we have AMD and Intel.... I've also used FOG.
ChrisH Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Windows 7 is a lot more versatile when it comes to using the same image for different hardware. The main problem is usually the mass storage drivers but adding these after the initial image is easier in Windows 7. Look at MDT for helping automate driver injection for different configurations.
cpjitservices Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Yeah in saying that we haven't had problems yet with 7 the only problem was sorting out the Licensing but we have that done now. It's only our Admin machines that are running windows 7 Enterprise.
