I carry this thing around with me, can I use it as a plug and play USB storage device without needing extra software installed? If anyone can point out a way without Jailbreaking, I will buy them.... something...

I used to do this with my iPod Classic too; but on the iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad you need to use third-party software like PhoneDisk to make the device show up as an actual disk. iPad, iTouch or iPhone Disk Mode is made easy with Phone Disk. Using your standard USB cable, this tiny program runs in the menu bar or system tray of your Mac or PC. When it finds an iPod Touch or iPhone it seamlessly mounts it to your file system so you can directly access its files using Windows Explorer, Finder and every other program. Once you're activated and all set up, you can connect your iProduct to your computer via USB, launch PhoneDisk and you will get access to the iPhone's folders. If your device is Jailbroken, you will get full access to all system files, folders, and more (without OpenSSH installed!). Otherwise, you will only see files related to media. creese Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 This is similar to a question I asked the other day. i wanted to connect my girlfriends iPhone to a Bluray USB to play music and show photos, Android, USB Stick etc. and Nano worked but the wonderful iPhone.... no chance.

pete Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 If you plug it into an Ubuntu box (10.04 tested on) it'll mount the phone (firmware 4. something) as a storage device last time I tested it (November).

BarryE Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 Im not sure if I,ve picked up what you want correctly but I downloaded an application from apple apps that allowed me to use my apple phone wireless connection to pc to transfer files excel etc cannot remember its name as i stopped using it only some machines in work had wireless and too much trouble setting them up but im sure its still available

Now I saw that and I don't know how that works. Do you type in the IP on your computer, and that connects to your iphone and you transfer the files like that? I assume that finds your iPhone via the phone network, as because if you have to be on the same wireless network it would be just as pointless!
jonnykewell1 Posted January 7, 2011 Posted January 7, 2011 it just uses whatever wireless network im using, when im at home it broadcasts to the home network and at work automatically switches onto my work wireless. Any yes just simply enter the ip adress into your web browser and up it comes.

THis is not what I want it for, (dropBox is better than that!) but I want to ensure I don't have to be connected via wireless on the same network as the PC I want to download onto... so for example if I go to a company and they don't have wireless say...

Thanks, that helps. I does appear, but you only have access to limited folders, such as the Photos folder. I have also tried to copy files to here and it does not work. @Domino, thank for that too
