IP CCTV Camera Systems

I am currently looking into bringing in a newIP CCTV system (along side old one for the time being!) Hopefully we can find some opensource software to install on a machine with probly 4 2tb disks with raid 0 in a pc case. Have looked around the internet quickly as have seen a few different pieces out there zoneminder being one.

 

Anybody use any freesoftware's out there?

I tested Mobotix last year, its amazing kit! some of the cameras let you and record in 360 degrees.

We use a piece of software called BlueIris. 1 license costs about £35. We have it running on 2 machines one machine runs a quadcore which happily runs 9 cameras.

How many cameras are you looking at?

 

Milestone do a free version of their software which will do 8 cameras, the next level up is essentials which will do 26 cameras costs 1 euro but you do have to buy a licence for each camera you get 2 camera licences and the software itself for 79 euros of somewhere around that.

yeah i saw that after i posted - then thought derr u stupid idiot!!

 

Will look into that tomorrow - we currrently have 14 cameras around the school but many are not working/need replacing and rather then get a company and pay them money due to the budget cuts we are looking at an in house solution

 

Will also take a look at blueiris see what looks best/slt are happy with - got some old desktops will test with for a start

There are 6 DVR's using Kodicom Software with a mix of PTZ and static units.

I dread to think how much it cost them and it doesn't seem to come close to the Mobotix stuff we have in schools.

Some have been in 24/7 service for 3 years now and never missed a frame.

 

At the stadium the guy is in every week changing something.

If I had the choice I'd rip it all out and fit the Mobotix everywhere.

Yes the Mobotix stuff is not cheap, but everything you need is embedded and there are a wide range of lens options too.

But as youre talking open source, I guess the budget isnt there for Mobotix...

Hi Glennda,

 

This platform is worth a look and is very functionally rich. It is free up to 16 channels with the only limitation being that you can only archive up to 1TB worth of storage.

 

Axxon Next: Open Platform IP Video Management Software

 

It supports all the major camera brands and video servers for adding any analogue cameras. 1 TB in Mpeg 4 or h.264 should give you plenty of storage mind. We've installed this free software at a couple of sites who needed a hand and no budget and it worked a treat.

 

I would say that this is better than the Milestone free software as that restricts you to 5days storage.

We are now installing a HIKVision set of cameras and recorder. Works really well and pricing is very good.
