cpjitservices Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 How cool are these switches ?? just did a firmware upgrade on one and you can see all the lights on the front do a little dance in sequence. How dandy is that ? We've got hundreds of these switches now at the college. I'm easily pleased......... by looks of it.
cpjitservices Posted December 21, 2010 Author Posted December 21, 2010 lol we all love it at some point - however I class myself as somewhat strange because if I'm directly working on a switch or server in a switch room or server room, I find it kinda easy to mellow out to the sound of whirring fans. If you know what I mean ??
cpjitservices Posted December 21, 2010 Author Posted December 21, 2010 I really like these 5510's, I like them better than Cisco switches actually.......
AVAGO Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 Hi CPjitservices I too like the Nortel 5510, I look after 32 5510-48T in or DC and DR centers split in to stacks, I have 1 5510-24t, could you tell me what firmware level you are running ? I want to add the 24 port in to a stack of 48 ports, but I think the firmware is too old, The 48 port units are at 6.1.28.028, But unless you have a support contract with Nortel ( Avaya ) you can not access the latest fw, The other thing I like is that is you have a stack and upgrade the Base, the rest of the stack gets it too, so now one by one upgrades AVAGO
cpjitservices Posted March 17, 2011 Author Posted March 17, 2011 lol we have alot more than 32, we only have 48-port switches, I'm not sure what version the firmware is as I haven't done it in a while - they are up-to-date though but the other guy updated them - I don't do it very often! These are quite frankly the best switches I've come across the build quality is bang on - we have them at every site we have and have never had one go down on us. We do have a support contract with Avaya but I don't deal with that.- the update procedure is great especially when you do a whole stack at once, very handy when you have multiple stacks of them.
chrisbrown Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 ProCurve (2600s at least, they're the only HPs I've ever bothered with) do it too...
