akhter Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Hi, I am looking for any disk quota management solution for schools. I have found the following: • Spaceguard SRM • WinQuota Are these suitable and if not then can you recommend any others? Thanks
6Foot2 Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 After a recommendation on Edugeek I had a look at FSRM [File Server Resources Manager] I found that it was already installed and configured on our system. All I had to do was confirm the quotas I wanted to apply to the student users. It works very well and I haven't looked back.
3s-gtech Posted December 20, 2010 Posted December 20, 2010 Another +1 for FSRM. You can easily apply the quotas and File Restrictions to all students if all users are in one folder, or do seperate year-by-year quotas if you seperate them into seperate year group folders. Also works with Windows 7's My Computer icons to give remaining free space.
vikpaw Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 I'd say go for what's built into Windows initially. EDIT: is this specifically for an MIS problem, otherwise you'll get a better response in another forum.
Cools Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 had to drop using Disk Quota Management kids where making files way to big 129 mb .ppt and .wmv from movie maker the ICT cord just never listens about compressing images and video. so i have a script to compress all images over 1Mb and re encode video to MP4 saving over 200GB of storage. looking to get a MS office file minimizer software but the there like over £3600+ tested one once 280mb ppt down to 1.76mb 98.7% compression not bad hay!
sionide Posted December 21, 2010 Posted December 21, 2010 so i have a script to compress all images over 1Mb and re encode video to MP4 saving over 200GB of storage. Any chance of a quick gander at the script?? Definitely looking for something like this to auto convert videos.. Does it run over-night or something like that?? -S
Cools Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Here you go.. @ ECHO OFF REM The following will convert all avi files in the current folder into mp4 files.
