Desktop wallpaper doesn't apply by GPO

Hi

I've been asked to put a different wallpaper per year group on my Server 2008 r2/Win 7 system. I have applied the gpo but all I get is a black desktop.

 

Any ideas?

We need to see your GPOs. Personally I use BGinfo for this task as it allows more versitility and adds system info to teh wallpaper; Hostname, IP, logged on user, etc.

There is a bug with Windows 7 - you need to set up and apply this hotfix The Desktop Wallpaper Group Policy setting is not applied in Windows 7 or in Windows Server 2008 R2

 

or add into the gpo that sets it to manually create the registry entry as the gpo doesn't make the reg settings correctly.

Another vote for BGInfo.

 

We use it to show:

 

Username, station name, IP address, logon time, randomly selected phrase [eg: Only the educated are free etc] a graphic centred on screen and to set the desktop colour [staff, students and admin have different colours so that we can tell at a glance if someone is using an account that they should not be]

 

This can all be done without BGInfo but it does make it so much easier.

BGInfo here for students here, at the moment it's just user name, computer name and picture of Santa (it's usually the school logo).

 

Controlled assessment accounts are similar but bright orange.

 

Teachers have what they like, they seem to mostly go either picture of their gardens or their children, we do however have one chap who's into his hadron collider porn.
