Galaxy Zoo: Hubble uses gorgeous imagery of hundreds of thousands of galaxies drawn from NASA's Hubble Space Telescope archive. To understand how these galaxies, and our own, formed we need your help to classify them according to their shapes — a task at which your brain is better than even the most advanced computer. If you're quick, you may even be the first person in history to see each of the galaxies you're asked to classify.

Help scientists recover worldwide weather observations made by Royal Navy ships around the time of World War I. These transcriptions will contribute to climate model projections and improve a database of weather extremes. Historians will use your work to track past ship movements and the stories of the people on board.

 

Link 7: Galaxy Zoo: Understanding Cosmic Mergers

 

There are two main ways to participate. One is by volunteering your time to run simulations and study the results in the Merge Galaxies activity. The other way is to review results submitted by other volunteers in Merger Wars. The Merge Galaxies activity requires the use of a Java Plug-In to run our simulation applet. The Merger Wars activity will work with any browser that supports javascript. The tutorial sections below provide more information about each activity.

 

Link 8: Galaxy Zoo: The Hunt For Supernovae

 

Your task in this latest Galaxy Zoo project is to help us catch exploding stars – supernovae. Data for the site is provided by an automatic survey in California, at the world-famous Palomar Observatory, and astronomers are ready to follow up on your best candidates at telescopes around the world.
