Can anyone point me in the right direction for a replacement touchpad for a lenovo r61 type 8943 palmrest touchpad assembly.

You might want to try ICT Direct... a lot of their spares are for T60/T61 and X60/X61 but you may get lucky. I managed to get some spares from there recently.
