No DNS records for macs

Hello,

 

We have a windows server 2008 network. We have a small suite of macs which we have successfully integrated into active directory for single sign on and home folder access.

 

However one problem we have noticed is that none of our macs have a DNS record on our DNS server. All the macs seem to be working fine but we cannot work out why they do not create a dns record. I have also done a host lookup on them all and they find the correct dns server. All network settings are specified such as domain name, dns servers etc.

 

Has anybody had this problem?

Same here and I'm none the wiser!

OS X clients do not update DNS records when getting an IP address from the DHCP server. You can make this happen by editing the permissions on the DHCP service to allow a user created by yourself for this very thing. Take a look through some of the threads relating to DNS in the mac section. You should come across it. If not then give me a shout and I'll see if I can find the link I used.

If you only have a small amount of macs is it worth setting up a DHCP reservation lease for each mac in server 2008? That way each mac will get the same IP address, the DHCP lease will never expire and you can get your DNS name this way
