[ms office - 2003] Word not replacing highlighted text when Typing

Had a strange one today, normally when you highlight some text then start typing it imediately replaces the highlighted text, well now its doesnt? It just starts typing at the start of the highlighted section of text and I cant figure out why? Got to be something simple.

Have a look in the office button>Word options>Advanced and see if you have "typing replaces selected text" ticked or not.

EDIT - sorry - just noticed this is 2003 not 2007. However-if you can find the Word options in 2003, still worth trying the above.

It's the same in 2003

 

Tools > Options

 

choose the Edit tab

 

Tick the "typing replaces selected text" box
