Users authenticating using old demoted server

Some of our pupil accounts are using a demoted (and since removed from the network) server. This is causing them to load incorrect profiles.

 

How can I remove this server from the user configuration?

Assuming you've changed the profile path in AD for the affected users to whatever should now be correct.......

 

Do you mean their cached local profiles are trying to pull info from the demoted server (say offline files), or auth is failing against the domain and so they're falling back to cached profiles?

 

If it's the former, try deleting copies of cached profiles for the affected users and reset the offline files cache on the affected machines: How to re-initialize the offline files cache and database

 

If it's the latter, when you perform an nslookup against yourdomainname.whatever, is the old server returned in the results?

When I used gpresult to see which server the user group policy was applied from, it was the old server.

So I guess its the former, I'll try your suggestion.

 

nslookup shows the correct servers, but I remember a problem earlier this year when the old server was shown and to solve I removed the old server from the DNS records.
