SIMS SQL 2005

nayone know the optimal options to choose when installing? Our LEA team have given us meticulus instructions on installing SQL server but been very vague on what components are best installed. IS just the database enough or ar things like teh management and connectivity tools best to install?

I am frankly quite disgusted.

 

We have been told that a roadmap to sql2005 would be published. I've heard nothing from our local dotict team apart from being told that there was a tool for estimating the server specification. The tool wouldn't run, I reported the issue but have heard nothing since. Over two months now. If I'm going to need to build a new server I need a budget and plenty of time. I'll be delighted to move to sql 2005, but the time allowance is atrocious.

 

I have defended Capita and SIMS to our head in the past and had a fair amount of flack about it. I'm afraid I'm beginning to think that they have a captive customer base and they don't have to worry about disruption. Our school is in the middle of timetabling issues, I've got a number of major projects to oversee, there have been no announcements from our local dotict team about the August upgrade, let alone that this will require an SQL 2005 move.

I have just completed the August MIS upgrade and the Migration to SQL 2005 with no issues what so ever, took about 1.5 hrs..

Last week the LEA came in to run the August upgrade, install SQL 2005 and migrate the database over. They said to leave SQL 2000 running for a month in case there were any problems. Thinking about it I can’t see any advantage in keeping SQL2000 running as it was only used for Sims and now the database has been converted to 2005 there’s no going back. Funny that :?

Am I right in interpreting then that the SQL2005 upgrade has to be carried out before the August update?

 

All the literature I've been given by the support department in our LEA state that the order is August Sims upgrade, SQL2005 upgrade, then November Sims upgrade.....
