Font not installed

Hi all,

 

Some teachers here use the Sassoon Primary font at home which we don't have in school. We do however have Sassoon Infant (there's very little difference). When opening a document that has been created at home in Sassoon Primary it selects a new font (usually times new roman or a handwriting font), is there anyway (preferably site wide) to make the font it changes to, to Sassoon Infant?

Do you know of a free editor to change the internal name of a font? It's not as simple as renaming the .ttf file.

What is the legality of this? Sassoon Primary and Infant are paid for fonts.

Being a lawyer and a graphic artist hobbyist, I can tell you that there is a way to rename fonts - and sometimes IT is a necessary evil with absolutely no nefarious intentions.

 

When renaming fonts always keep in mind:

 

1. Fonts are intellectual property and are protected by IP and Copyrights, so please do not use this method to steal other peoples fonts. Always give credit where credit is do.

 

2. Your operating system uses specific fonts in its display. Renaming these fonts, could cause your computer some issues. Dont mess with whats working, only rename fonts that you absolutely have to.

 

All this said - the quick and dirty way to rename fonts is to download a trial version of Font Creator (I think MAC has a Font Explorer).

 

After you have downloaded and installed font creator, the following steps will help you rename the font:

1. Open an installed font from the File Menu

2. Under Tools, go to the Autonaming Wizard.

3. Rename your font as desired

4. Save As: Your Desired Name.

 

You can now install this font into your font folder to use with your programs. But, as a note, you should always back up the original font on your computer and NEVER redistribute fonts that you have renamed.

What program(s) do these fonts come with? Wouldn't it be better to try to use the same font on both sets of machines?

Our Sassoon Infant in school came with Clicker 5. The teacher's Sassoon Primary was bought stand alone by her AFAIK.
