looking for a cheap NAS storage for backup

im looking for a network attached back up solution for our office. ( admin pc, burser and head pc).

any good NAS suggestions please? how about this?

Im going to buy one of these for my self. only thing is you need to buy 2 (if you want RAID) hard drives to go in it (or if your anything like us, you'll probably have a couple lying around).

I had one of those in my las tjob. Very good it was too. However they are getting long in the tooth (the model is over 5 years old) and it may be worth looking at something newer with USB 3.0 support perhaps?

I think for a device that only costs £80 plus 2 drives is pretty good. Why do you think they are getting too old?? mines just going to sit at home with all my movies and music, a backup of work from a laptop.

Do you need it to be able to authenticate against active directory. If you do you will have to twiddle with freenas or if you want an off the shelf onto you would have to consider a buffalo tera station. They are great when they work but when the drives get old the after sales is well lets say has to be seen to be believed how bad.

I dont need any thing authenticate AD. its just the purpose of Back up workgrouped pc. no need much config all. simple storage would be fine.
