Anyone got Ubuntu 10.10 Netbook Edition running well?

My other half is in need of a new netbook for xmas and I was wondering if anyone has got Ubuntu 10.10 working pretty much 'out of the box'?

 

In the past when I have installed older versions I have had wireless, bluetooth or function key problems with netbooks.

 

Do you have the new version running and if so what model of netbook is it running on?

 

On the Ubuntu forums they said they have an older version running on a Samsing n150 but my colleague could not get wireless to work on his. They also mentioned a Sony Vaio W but again with an older version.

I have an MSI Wind U100 that I replaced the wireless card in which worked no probs with Ubuntu 9.10, 10.04 and 10.10.

 

Any reason for netbook edition? I installed the UI on my 10.10 install and all it did was annoy me so I changed back to Gnome.

 

If its the big buttons you want try using gnome-do, it removes the need for the mouse all together (for finding and launching programs)

 

Most netbooks should be fine just stear clear of anything using a broadcom wireless card and you should be fine

Yes, Ubuntu Netbook Edition is what I want to install but as you can see from these two Ubuntu forums there are lots of problems getting it to work with all the different hardware, drivers, etc:

Not all netbooks have been tested so I was wondering if anyone here had it running.

The eeePC I won a the conference a few years back is currently running Ubuntu with no problems. It's an earlier version (not sure which) but it works a treat. And with Ubuntu 10.10 at home, I am finding Linux has grown up a lot since my previous forays into it.

 

Beware though, they still don't install support for MP3, WMA, encrypted DVDs etc off the bat. You either mess around with libraries or use one of the paid-for packages in the software centre introduced in 10.10.
