For you oldies like me who remember this terrible sitcom.....

It was so bad it was brilliant. I used to watch it all the time. Terry Scott was a brilliant comic actor. Much underrated and unappreciated.

 

In the 1970s, he did the TV commercials for the Curly Wurly chocolate bar, in which he appears as a schoolboy, complete with short trousers and cap. He was brilliant - excellent bit of acting.

I'd take issue with it being called "terrible".....

 

I think it was a staple of the mid-late 70's, early 80's. As mentioned by Tech Guy, Terry Scott was a quite wonderful comic actor, who (let's not forget), gave voice to Penfold!

 

Although it was pretty harmless stuff, by todays standards, I don't think it was bad enough (at the time) to be called terrible.......and hindsight IS such a wonderful thing!

No, Matt's absolutely right - it was terrible. I spent a large chunk of my teenage years being forced to listen to all those awful 'dad' jokes (it was on at teatime so there was no choice but to either watch it or eat in the garage). The plotlines were ludicrous, the acting frankly 1-dimensional, and the whole experience akin to spending a week with a pair of senile relatives.

Why was everyone's boss back then called CJ ? Terry's boss was called CJ, so was Perrin's I think......

You are a little older than me, so evenings with T&J were quite nice! Gentle comedy that didn't harm anyone!

 

But, hindsight IS a wonderful thing, and that prog wouldn't last 5 mins in these times.....Which is a shame really, when you think about it....How much this country has changed in the last 30 years, that we'd have people slagging off this gentle, tea-time comedy!
