HOWTO: ePOS receipt printer imagery

Our cashless catering system has thermal printers which we access via the POS.net framework in C#. Part of the process of using those printers is loading a bitmap image to the printer, to be used on receipts.

 

This is just a quick post to help anyone else who needs to know what format these printers seem to like their graphics in.

 

The printers we have are Posiflex PP7700 and Aura 8000, but I've been led to believe that they have the same format requirements as most other similar printers.

 

So, the file details:

 

Windows BMP

Indexed Colour

8Bit

72DPI

With Dithering.

 

In Photoshop, I found that you can't have the image saved in RGB colour mode and then save in 8Bit, so you must change it to indexed.

 

If you don't save as 8Bit, the image will print as a single black blob...

Not yet. The pricing is a little high until we can figure out what we want to do overall with cash incoming. We may end up going down the road of stopping cash coming in at all, and using the ParentPay PayPoint integration to allow parents to pay cash in that way instead of here.

 

Meaning our local kiosk could be simplified down to a basic touchscreen and printer without any fancy cash loaders etc...

Ok, only reason I ask is because we are currently looking into cashless catering and the loader units from Trust-e were about £1500 a piece, this doesn't include touchscreen but thought it was a starting point.

We have got completetly cashless and provide a old pc running Kiosk Tool for parents with no internet access to come in and pay. We also have Paypoint setup and there luckily a shop opposite the school grounds with us issuing cards to those who request it.
