[fog] FOG & Xenserver

Hi there,

 

does anyone use FOG within a virtual XenServer environment? If so what version of Linux did you use?

 

Basically I can't get any vitual Linux machines to boot up at all!

I used to run FOG on CentOS 5.3 (which was then upgraded to 5.4) ontop of Citrix XenServer.

Sounds like you may not have installed the linux guest support pack for xenserver.

Hi,

 

Just double checked and the Linux guest pack is installed. I've downloaded the CentOS DVD iso and tried installing this. This gets further than the Ubuntu install but after selecting the language, I'm then propted to where I want to update the modules from? What modules, I'm installing from a DVD!?!?!

Hi Mate,

 

I'm getting this error after running ./installfog.sh:

* Checking package: httpd . . . . Failed!

 

Any ideas?

Do you have a proxy?

 

If you do, have you set the settings as mentioned in this post. Run apt-get update as root (to update the package lists) then try installing fog again.

 

Are you executing installfog.sh as root?

Have you defintely got internet access to download the packages and if you made the VM behind a proxy you'll have to check the that you have the correct repositories as the installer doesn't like the lack of internet access.

 

To let apt access the internet I normally give the proxy settings directly by making a file called /etc/apt/apt.conf which contains:

 

Acquire {

Retries "0";

HTTP {

Proxy "http://proxy:proxyport";

};

};

to execute stuff as root on debian, you can either log in as root or configure sudo (and another link here)

You can stop that happening by ticking the 'Disable smilies in text' option under additional post options

Hi,

 

I have set the Debian box to bypass the proxy to get out to the web.

 

There are 2 options at the start of the FOG install and they are to select either Fedora/CentOS or Unbuntu and something else. I have selected Fedora/Centos. Is this correct?

 

I am executing installfog.sh as root.

UPDATE:

 

Now reinstalled Debian and ensured Web Server was selected as an install option and now when running installfog.sh things are looking more prommissing.

 

Now it is sitting at : Installing package: php5

 

and has been for about 30 minutes.

You need to select the Ubuntu option (Debian is what ubuntu is based on) in the fog setup. I've successfully installed fog on a debian box using the ubuntu selection in the installer.

 

Centos/fedora uses the Yum package manager whereas debian/ubuntu use apt-get. If you choose the fedora/centos option (on a debian based system) in fog then the reason why it hangs while trying to download the packages is because the YUM package manager doesn't exist on debian based distros.

I have restarted the installation of FOG using Ubuntu as the main selection.

 

I defo hve internet access as I'm responding to this post whilst logged onto the Debian box.

Does it download & install php5 or throw up an error?

Ran the 'apt-get install php5' and it installed, Rerun the ./installfog.sh and all now seems good.

After running sudo apt-get install mysql-server I get the following error:

 

The following packages have unmet dependencies.

mysql-server: Depends: mysql-server-5.0 but it is not going to be installed.

try apt-get install -f to fix broken packages

 

from apt-get -h (help):

 -f  Attempt to correct a system with broken dependencies in place

 

 

You can also do it via the GUI by going to System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager > Edit > Fix Broken Packages. I can't remember if debian has synaptic installed as default or not (if not, apt-get install synaptic should do it).

First off, try updating the package lists (apt-get update) then try the following commands:

 

apt-get remove mysql-server

 

then apt-get install libhtml-template-perl libdbi-perl mysql-server5.0 mysql-client-5.0

 

and try reinstalling fog
