Hi there guys

Ok I have created a 2008R2 VM to test with Sharepoint

But im having a little problem externally

How can I make Sharepoint Designer work externally? (works fine internal)

This error happens when I try to edit a webpage, even a new one I create

soap:ServerServer was unable to process request. ---> Value does not fall within the expected range.

Any ideas guys?

Is there different ports I need opened?

I have only got TCP80 opened

Im only running by its ip address at the momment, is that part of the problem?

I have the same problems when using the IP, but its things like calendar items and access dbs that don't work.

I'm guessing it might be something in the central admin console but not looked into it deeper yet.

You need to connect SharePoint in SPD using the same URL externally which is configured in you alternative access mapping

Can you explain this a little more?

I have no idea how to change this basically. I've found alternative access mappings but not sure what to do next

Easiest way will be to set up a host entry on the external computer which relates to the right IP address. Should work after that.

Sorry I still don't really get it.

Our sharepoint works fine internally from the url

http://rgmedia

But when people use the external IP to connect offsite:

http://82.xxx.xxx.xxx

They get all sorts of errors in sharepoint.

How would I setup the mapping for that?

New alternate access mapping, select the application which you want (rgmedia in this case), put the full URL people will be typing in, save. That should do it.

More detail here - Configure alternate access mapping (Windows SharePoint Services)

Thankyou so much for this.

I added a simple new internal mapping of the external IP address then assigned it to "extranet" and suddenly all functions from sharepoint work from home!
