Grrrrrrrrr Server 2008!!! 2!

I'm trying to set up the new SIMS server using Server 2008 Standard 64 bit version (R1).

 

Every time I try to install it falls over part way through with an I/O error. Error code

0cx00000e9

 

By way of trouble shooting:

 

The 32 Bit version of R1 – Installs with no problems

 

The 64 Bit version of R2 – Installs with no problems

 

The 64 Bit version of R1 falls over, with the same error each time.

 

(Ramesys have replaced the CD - I still get the same error with the replacement DVD)

 

I’ve also tried copying the files from the 64 Bit R1 disk on my own workstation (and on a colleagues machine) and it falls over every time when trying to copy the boot.wim file (on both versions of the DVD you’ve sent)

 

 

Ramesys have suggested I contact Microsoft Activation to sort this out, but it doesn't strike my as an activation issue.

 

Does anyone have an idea as to where I should start look for a solution? Please?

Have you got access to an external USB DVD drive? If so, try using that. Have you got access to any other 2008 64bit media? The discs that they are sending sound like they are corrupt...

is it worth trying to import the dvd into mdt and deploying that way as that uses its own boot.wim?

 

or try using the ms util for copying win7 to a pen drive for install

Try just installing the basics - i was hitting an error trying to install every single part of sql - couldn't work it out - in the end i just installed the basic requirements then it installed fine

sorry me not reading the post properly - do you have access to the volume licesing site and download it from there?

 

also although not supported by capita sims works find on server 2008 r2

Is brand server is it, you tried using the HP SmartStart DVD's or Dell Server Build CD's

Download the Eval copy of 2008 r2 from the Microsoft site http://www.microsoft.com/windowsserver2008/en/us/trial-software.aspx just click through the technet link and use a windows live id to start the download (you don't need technet) then install that.

 

The media is just the standard media as far as I am aware but comes with an eval key instead, if you use the one you have it should activate fine as a full product.

 

I also think that it is a bad media or a bad bit DVD drive, you should not need to use a SmartStart CD as 2008 is a modern OS and will pick up almost all of the hardware required to install. What you could use the SmartStart/diagnostics CD for is to run the hardware diagnostics on the server itself. This kind of problem could also be caused by bad memory which the boot.wim is expanded into. The CD should include a server specific memory scanning tool that will checkt propperly even with things like ECC/full buffering enabled.

Thankfully, a downloaded version from the Microsoft VLC site sorted it out - two iffy DVDs I suspect.
