DNS Question

I'm sure I must be missing something here:

 

Our internal domain uses DNS, and these DNS servers use the LEA's DNS servers as Forwarders. All works well.

 

Problem is our website is hosted externally and the LEA used one of their external IP addresses to host it. Our DNS servers always fail to find the http://www.domain.com, but if we query the LEA's DNS servers directly it works fine.

 

Is there a way to create a DNS entry for our external http://www.domain.com address? As its the same name as our domain (i.e domain.com) these seems to confuse DNS which doesn't query the forwarders.

Yes, this will be because you have a DNS zone for yourdomain.com and as your clients are asking your servers and they don't know the answer (but know of the domain so won't forward it) so they say so.

 

Simplest way of doing this is to create an entry for www and point it to the IP of your http://www.domain.com (when asking the LEA servers) and that should sort it.

Once I checked out DNS servers I realised the www entry was missing. D'Oh!
