12 bay esata storage array

I have found these http://www.norcotek.com/DS-1220.php 12 bay esata storage array boxes online (similar devices to this thread http://edugeek.net/index.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=5509) , and we are looking to purchase. However they are pretty impossible to get hold of in the uk. Has anyone else seen any of these type things? Even 8 port esata boxes would be good.

What are the exact specs you are looking for? Could you not just go with a Chenbro or I could whip you up one of these...

The Norco unit we saw was good due to cost, this will slot in to a server nicely. The CyberStore nas units we have been quoted on were too expensive (work on a figure of £1300 ish including drives and you can see that they are too much.)

 

If you think you can help / suggest let me know.

 

Four terabytes for as close to £1000 is what we are aiming for (I am close )

P.S Yes its a chassis with a PCI card that goes in any server you want to quadruple the storage available.

I've managed to find a couple of places that sell those NorcoTek 12 bay units in the UK. They look very good for the price - thanks for the find.

If you want something more enterprise level (and 12 bays is pretty serious) look at the Adaptec Sanbloc or the JBOD products.

Host based or iSCSI there is something there for everyone and you can get them from dozens of regular suppliers.

Watch out for some of the lesser known units, they can have unusal OS limitations such as concurrent connection limits and security integration issues that might limit possible your intended usage scenarios.

I have solved this one by using a 2.0TB buffalo drivestation quattro - this links via eSATA to the motherboard. 1.4 terabytes formatted for about 500 quid.

In the end I went with a couple of eSATA Enclosures - Sonnet D500P with 5 x 500GB HDD in each. All connected to the Sonnet Tempo SATA E4P. Performance is quite decent (only used as the disk part of our disk to disk to tape backup strategy with Backup Exec) even on Windows Software RAID 5. Each unit was about £600 for about 2.5TB Storage (before RAID).
